Canadian Destination Weddings – Hello Whistler

Suit case, check!  Coffee, check!  Boarding pass, check!

This lady is off to show you the crème de la crème of Canadian wedding venues.


When most brides think of a destination wedding, they think of sunny beaches and crystal blue water in Mexico or the Bahamas.  What most brides don’t think, of is all the beautiful destination wedding locations in Canada!


A few weeks ago I got to travel to Whistler, British Columbia.  The sea to sky highway took my breath away and was a beautiful start to the trip.  While I was there, I had the pleasure of seeing two of the towns top wedding venues, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb.  Over the next couple of weeks I will be posting about my experiences at the venues.  I travelled 6,100 ft. up a mountain to see these venues and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you. Stay tuned!


Through my travels I hope to share with you incredible wedding venues all around Canada!  Who knew such picturesque hotels and resorts were right here in our own backyard.

Bridal Nutrition

In personally prepping for my big day and in working with brides to prep for their oh so special day, I have learned quite a few things. The first is that every bride wants to feel beautiful, glowing & radiant. To dodge all those scary feelings that can come along with being the center of attention, the bride should feel as self confident & beautiful as ever for herself & for the partner of her dreams. This effortless beauty will be captured in memories & photographs that will last a lifetime. I truly believe that by eating whole foods, free of chemicals, packed with beautifying nutrients every bride can feel empowered & glowing on their big day!



No one likes a hangry bride! Away with that bride-zilla… check out below I have included a sample day for what a bride to be could eat to look & feel like a bombshell on her wedding day!

Upon waking:

2 cups hot water + lemon + 1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar

BENEFITS:  Hot lemon water will wake up your liver, which detoxifies your entire body. Apple Cider Vinegar will balance your PH levels making you crave less sugar and glow!


Protein packed green smoothie:

  • 2 cups kale or spinach
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1 scoop brown rice protein powder
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup mango, frozen

BENEFITS OF THIS SNACK: Green apples are full of fibre & antioxidants, pairing apples with a healthy fat like almonds will keep your blood sugar levels & leave you satisfied until that cake tasting 😉


Quinoa Collard Wraps

What You’ll Need: 

  • 3 1/2 cups Organic Veggie broth
  • 2 cups quinoa
  • 3/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 3 cherry tomatoes, diced up really small
  • 1/2 cup sliced pitted kalamata olives ( green ones)
  • 1/2 cup minced red onion
  • 4 ounces chopped organic feta cheese, or more to taste
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste

What to Do: 

  1. First rinse the quinoa until the water runs clear and not merky
  2. Now boil the quinoa in the veggie broth according to package instructions should take about 25 mins, let simmer last 5 mins on low and fluff with a fork.
  3. Make dressing using lemon, olive oil & red wine vinegar
  4. Add in all of your veggies and mix around in a large pot
  5. Place back on the stove and gently pour in your dressing and stir until all combined
  6. Cut off the long stems of the collards to form a circle so you ran wrap it up easier
  7. Next place your Collard wraps stem side down ( like the first pic)
  8. Now spoon on your quinoa mixture on to the middle of the collard green
  9. Gently wrap from the bottom up, just like you would a normal grain wrap and cut in half!


BENEFITS OF THIS MEAL:  Filled with protein from the quinoa and organic Feta crumbles. Paired with the healthy fats from the olives and antioxidants of the collard green wraps they are the perfect power lunch!

Glowing Soup

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups of organic coconut milk + 2 tbsp reserved for finished soup
  • 5 cups veggie or chicken broth
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 5 Tbsp Thai kitchen Red curry paste
  • 2 bunches of asparagus
  • 1/2 cup broccoli
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 3 tbsp fresh basil
  • 3 tbsp fresh dill
  • sprig of fresh parsley for garnish
  • sea salt & pepper
  • hot sauce

What To Do:

  1. Begin by heating up a pot on med heat with coconut oil, dice up garlic and then throw it in mixing with sea salt and pepper stirring until browned.
  2. Next pour in the coconut milk and broth, bring to a boil
  3. Now add in cut up veggies ( asparagus & broccoli)
  4. Cover and cook in boiling broth for about 10 mins until you can cut through  the broccoli easy and the asparagus is soft.
  5. Next add in the the thai curry paste and the fresh herbs, turning the pot down to medium heat. season with more salt. Cook for an additional 5 to 10 mins
  6. Remove pot from heat and use an immersion blender ( see picture ) OR a vented blender like a vita mix or a blend tec. Blend until smooth
  7. Pour a giant serving into a bowl and pour an extra 2 tbsp of coconut milk & hot sauce in the bowl and garnish with fresh parsley!

 BENEFITS OF THIS MEAL: This soup is packed full of nourishing greens including asparagus, broccoli and fresh herbs which will improve liver function which means healthy skin! Asparagus is a natural diuretic, which means it will pull out any excess water and bloat you may have.

CRAVING KILLER: Cinnamon tea with a dash of almond milk! This will regulate your blood sugar levels. Keeping you from crashing & wanting junk food!

Suggestions: Avoid any soda or diet drinks & always aim to drink 3 litres of water per day! Staying hydrated will keep your skin soft & dewy!

What’s in my Emergency Kit

An Emergency Kit is my secret weapon to beat most problems that come up at a wedding.  This bag comes in handy more than you think.  My bright purple Lug bag is hard to miss.  She is equipped to handle everything from sewing on a missing button to removing a grease stain.  Trust me I am a self-proclaimed stain removal ninja!
Here are a few of my fav items to keep on hand.  This is only a handful of items I have for a wedding.  There are many more secret weapons in my Marry Poppins bag!

Carrying two styles of cards in my bag allows me to thank vendors if they have gone above and beyond at a wedding.  Vendors work hard to create a memorable wedding day for a couple, sometimes lending a hand on things outside of their usual guidelines.  When someone helps you it’s nice to show how much it’s appreciated.  A nice hand written card is my quick way to say thank you.

NOTE:  I ADORE Kate Spade cards!  If you look hard enough you can often find them on sale at Chapters.  For an extra special touch look into local vendors like Oak & Linen to create hand-made cards.
Lauren’s (the owner) calligraphy is to die for!



For my personal use only… JK!  Suckers and smarties are a great way to get a flower girl or ring bearer down the aisle.  Don’t worry, I always ask mom and dad first!
Carry treats that are PEANUT FREE!  Allergies are common and you want to make sure that your sucker or smarties are good for everyone.  Companies are diligent on adding the peanut free sign to their label.  If you are unsure, bring the packaging with you to show parents.

NOTE:  Peanut free options; Jelly Belly jelly beans, Lifesaver Gummies, Sour patch Kids, Skittles, Mike and Ikes, Sweet Tarts, Dum Dum lollipops,  Jolly Ranchers, and Smarties.

Baby Powder

Wedding season is during the summer for a reason, the suns out and the weather is beautiful.  Warm weather is great for photos but not so great for a bridal party in heavy clothing.  Put it this way, on a sunny 20 degree day it will be around 30 degrees under the brides dress…
Baby powder is the best secret to staying sweat-free under your dress or suit.  Right before doing up your dress shake a bit (or a lot) of baby powder under your dress.  Staying dry will also help with chaffing while walking down the aisle or for photos.

NOTE:  Baby powder helps keep you smelling fresh throughout the day and late into the night!



Same as with baby powder deodorant helps keep you fresh and dry throughout your day.  Antiperspirants are great to use leading up to your wedding.  That way the product is in your pores already and will keep you nice and dry.


Sewing Kit

This little baby comes in handy more often than you would think!  Buttons always happen to fall off of suites on the wedding day.  For this reason I keep black and several shades of grey and blue thread handy.
A sewing kit can save photos.  Who want to be missing a button in the middle of their suit jacket or even worse a button on their pants!

NOTE: Thread is the one thing to not cheap out on!  It may be tempting to buy a Dollarama sewing kit but please please please don’t.  Gutermann is a brand of thread that I highly suggest you purchase.

Dental Floss

No one likes having food in their teeth… ICK!  Nip those pesky guys in the butt by having tooth floss on hand.  Make sure that you have a girlfriend there to have your back and let you know if there is something in your teeth – that’s what friend are for right!



Toothpaste may seem a bit silly to have on hand but it’s great to freshen up your mouth without the sugary after taste of mints.  In a rush?  There is no need for a toothbrush!  Dab a bit on your finger and rub it over your gums and swish around your mouth.  Voila, you now have a fresh kissable smile!


 Tic Tac

Tic Tac’s are another great way to freshen up your mouth.  After eating delicious food and drinking a few cocktails things might not be too fresh…  Beat bad breath by popping one of these bad boys!


Even though I carry these items on the wedding day I always suggest for couples to bring their own personal emergency kit.  A bride’s emergency kit will include more personal items like make-up and perfume.
I hope this gives couples insight into what they should bring with them on their wedding day.  Hiring a wedding planner is a great way to safe guard your wedding day from minor catastrophes like grease stains or sweat.

Bridal Fitness Series – Meditation


I’ve been guiding meditation for over a year now, and about ten weeks ago I joined a meditation school. No, I can’t say that I’ve ever been under the stress of planning a wedding, but being a full time student managing their own business at the same time has its chaotic moments, and sleepless nights. Meditation is a practice I think everyone should make time for, especially a stressed out, busy bride! Meditation can help you improve your sleeping patterns, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve your memory and attention span. Part of the reason why I joined a meditation school a few months ago is because I’ve broken down enough times to know how important it is to dedicated time to just being. Always remember, you are a ‘human being’… not a ‘human doing.’ People often tell me they don’t have time to meditate, and I get it because I’ve felt that way too. Whenever someone tells me that, I read them this quote: “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you’re too busy, then you should sit for an hour.” Meditation actually adds more hours to your day. Being a student I find myself saying I don’t have time to meditate because I need to write a paper and study for three exams. But if I were to sit down, meditate, and clear my mind, all that writing and studying would take half as long because my brain would be functioning better, and my mind would be clear and sharp. Meditation has countless physical and mental health benefits and you don’t need to join a meditation school or studio to find your center, simply set a space at home and dedicate 5-10 minutes a day to a mindful meditation practice.

Step One – Set up a space
  • I recommend finding a quiet, dark room in your home. Blocking out sound and light will help eliminate distractions. If you live on a busy street, or have kids running around that doesn’t mean you can’t mediate. Meditation teaches us how to find peace in this busy world. So if you can’t find the darkest, quietest room, don’t worry about it. Work with what you got, and stay positive!
Step Two – Get comfy
  • Personally, I like to lie down to meditate most of the time. But if you’re newer to meditation, or always seem to fall asleep, I recommend a seated position. Make sure you sit up tall with a nice long spine. You might find it helpful to sit on a folded up blanket and prop your hips up higher than your knees, so your legs don’t fall asleep.
Step Three – Practise being mindful
  • A great style of meditation to get started with, especially if you’re going to practise alone at home, is a mindfulness meditation practice. Mindfulness simply means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Remember we cannot use the mind to train the mind. We have access to other tools, which can help us train the mind, like our body, our breath, and the sounds around us. Anchoring your awareness to these things can help give your mind a break.
  • Try this: bring your awareness to your body. Take yourself through a body scan. Start at your toes and feet and slowly list every body part in your mind until you get to the crown of your head. Every time your mind tries to wander keep bringing it back to the body. Once you reach the crown of your head, bring your attention to your breath. Breath deeply and mentally say something like, “every inhale my belly is rising, every exhale my belly is falling.” OR … On your inhale mentally say “RE” and on your exhale mentally say “LAX.” You can also try counting your breath, I recommend counting down from ten. Another thing you can do in this style of meditation is focus on sound, try putting on some calming music.

As a teacher who guides meditation, one of the things I hear the most is, “I don’t know if I’m doing it right.” Trust me, there is no wrong way to mediate. It’s impossible to screw it up. Worst comes to worst, you fall asleep… but rest is good for a busy bride too.

Bridal Fitness Series – Cardio

Welcome to week 3 of the Bridal Fitness Series!  I’m super excited to welcome back Johanna Seier, Author of the Fit Girl Guide + Bootcamp queen.


When it comes to getting wedding ready, most brides tend to turn to cardio as their primary form of exercise. As I mentioned in my earlier post, incorporating both resistance training and cardio is going to be the most efficient and effective way, to see and feel serious results. The problem with cardio is somewhat different then with picking up the weights though. It’s not that most women avoid doing it altogether; it’s just that most people don’t know what to do in order to actually benefit the most from it!

Rather then sticking to long, steady state sessions on the treadmill and elliptical, I recommend incorporating HIIT (high intensity interval training) into your weekly workout routine. How come? HIIT not only is WAY less time consuming, it actually increases your overall metabolic rate if done correctly, and can have you burning more calories throughout the rest of the day (rather than just while you’re actually on the machine.)

Here is the HIIT workout that I’ve designed to help you torch a TON of calories, get an incredible sweat, and keep things interesting so it’s over before you know it!

Cardio Workout

Before you begin: Choose your equipment! This workout can be done on your choice of treadmill, stairmaster, Jacob’s Ladder, indoor track, or even outdoors.

Warm Up:

Complete 5 minutes at a moderate intensity on your equipment of choice. This should be at a pace that would allow you to carry a conversation the entire time.

  • Complete 3 minutes at a challenging intensity on your cardio equipment of choice! This should be a pace that would not allow you to carry a conversation, and pushes you to break a sweat.
  • Get off of your machine, step to the side, and immediately complete 50 High Knees followed by 50 Mountain Climbers.
  • Get back on the machine immediately, and go for one minute at a very slow recovery pace, to allow your breathing to return to normal.
  • Complete 5 rounds of this in total! This workout will take roughly between 25-30 minutes altogether.

Bridal Fitness Series – Yoga

Welcome back for week 2 of the Bridal Fitness Series!  I’m super excited to introduce Samantha Squire as this weeks guest blogger.  Samantha is a Winnipeg yoga + meditation + fitness guru!


A lot of brides come to me before their wedding day with specific health and wellness goals in mind so they can look and feel amazing on their wedding day. Whether they join my bootcamp program or come to my yoga classes, they want to do something good for their wellbeing, so they can feel like a bombshell walking down the isle.


Right before the wedding day, brides are working hard to achieve their fitness goals. Feeling good and being confident on the big day is important, but so is feeling clear, calm, and centered. By practicing more restorative yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation, I promise even bridezilla can mellow out and find her inner peace. Certain yoga classes can be physically challenging to help a bride achieve her fitness goals (if you’ve taken any of my classes you know how notoriously hard they can be). Instead of including a crazy core routine, I included three specific yoga postures and my favorite breathing exercise to help reduce stress, reduce fatigue, and help sooth your nervous system.

Bridal Fitness Series – Strength Training Workout

Hi everyone! My name is Johanna Seier, and I am a women’s fitness trainer and lifestyle coach from Winnipeg, Canada. I specialize in helping women of all fitness levels achieve their long-term goals through my customized training programs, and a major focus on self-love, confidence, and body positivity.

Throughout my time in the fitness industry, I have worked with brides in bootcamps, one-on-one sessions, with customized online programs, and through the use of my 10-week transformation program The Fit Girl Guide, to prepare for their wedding and feel their absolute best on the big day. Although I have yet to tie the knot myself (That day is far away, although I’m definitely already feeling for my hypothetical future hubby…. I’m pretty sure the term bridezilla will be somewhat accurate when my day comes.) I truly do understand the significance of wanting to look and feel nothing but completely confident and amazing when that day arrives. Unfortunately, I also know the stress, anxiety, and unhealthy mentality that many women feel forced to adopt in order to get themselves “wedding ready”. So when Alex asked me to share my insight on preparing for your wedding and feeling your absolute best in the healthiest way possible, I couldn’t have been more excited. My ultimate goal with this series is to show you that what you want to achieve CAN be done, but you have to go about it in the right way, and with a healthy positive mindset in order to make it happen.


First things, first: Let’s hit STOP on the panic button. If right now you are in any way freaking out, attacking yourself for the way that you look, or considering doing something drastic and unhealthy to be ready “on time” seriously please stop now. Positive, long-lasting changes can be made, but not from a position of self-hatred! Accepting yourself and loving yourself for who you are right now, while acknowledging that there are changes you are going to commit toward making, is going to be the only way to set yourself up for true long-lasting success in any fitness endeavor.

Okay, so second: It’s time to commit. Write down what you want to achieve, and make a plan! Let me just preface this by saying that if your plan is to workout for 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, and eat nothing but chicken and broccoli… its not going to happen. Whatever your plan may be, it needs to be something that works for YOU and fits into your actual routine. Everyone’s lifestyle is different, and what worked for your bff on her big day, might not be the same thing that’s going to work for you. If you work crazy hours each day, maybe you need to squeeze in those lunchtime workouts. If you’re a new mom, maybe it’s not realistic to get to the gym, and you need to get things done at home. Whatever your plan may be, make sure its something that you truly can stick to, and feel motivated and passionate about making it happen.

At the end of the day, when it comes to the results that the majority of brides talk about seeing, words come to mind like, “tighten” “tone” “lean” etc. If you are looking to sculpt your body, shed some fat, and gain some lean muscle tissue definition, there are going to be three major components that will all be key to your success; strength training, cardiovascular training, and proper nutrition. Each of these things will play an absolutely vital role into getting you to your goal!

I will be sharing both customized strength and cardio workouts, to show you the most effective ways possible to train. I’ll warn you now: these workouts are designed to be a challenge! But if you’re willing to get sweaty and put in the effort, you’re going to feel incredible and see results both in the way you look and feel.

Strength Training Workout:

Although so many women tend to run away from the weights in favor of cardio, it truly is the key to achieving a toned, svelte bridal bod. Not only does strength training increase your lean muscle tissue, it increases your metabolic rate, and torches a ton of calories. This workout is designed to be performed with the most minimal equipment possible (all you need is a medicine ball!) and in the comfort of your own home. So grab a mat, clear 35 minutes out of your day, and prepare to get wedding ready.

Complete each circuit 3 times through, moving efficiently from one exercise to the next. Once you’ve completed a circuit 3 times, rest for 60 seconds before moving on to the next one!


Circuit #1:


Jump Squats x 20
  • Stand up straight with your shoulders back and core tight.
  • Lower down into a squat.
  • Jump straight up in the air as high as you can, swinging your arms back for momentum.
  • Land softly, toe-to-heel into a squat and repeat.
Medicine Ball Glute Bridges x 12/leg
  • Place the medicine ball up against a wall or something stable.
  • Lie on your back with one heel on top of the ball and straighten your resting leg so that your knees are next to each other.
  • With your hips just above the floor, press into the ball with your heel and push your hips up as high as you can into the air.
  • Pause for 2 seconds and squeeze hard before lowering hips and repeating.
Lunges with a Twist x 15/leg
  • Standing tall and holding the medicine ball up in front of your body, lunge forward with your left leg.
  • Your back knee should be just above the ground and your front knee should be angled slightly outward with the weight primarily in the outer edge of your foot.
  • Twist your torso toward your front leg slowly (while you are still holding the lunge)
  • Return to center and step back foot forward, repeating the movement on the opposite leg and moving in a forward direction.

Circuit #2:


Rolling Med Ball Push-Ups x 10/side
  • Get into a push-up position with one hand on the medicine ball and one hand on the ground.
  • Complete 1 push-up
  • Roll the ball along the ground, pushing it to your opposite hand and repeat on this side.
Thrusters x 12
  • Stand tall, holding your medicine ball against your upper chest with your glutes squeezed and core engaged.
  • Lower into a squat and power straight upward, thrusting the medicine ball straight up overhead.
  • Make sure to use your legs and glutes for power (this is a full-body movement!) and to keep your core engaged so that your back doesn’t arch.
Tricep Push-Up Burpees x 12
  • Starting in a straight-arm plank position, complete a tricep push-up ensuring your elbows go straight back and not out to the side (note: drop to your knees if needed, its way better to modify so that you can have perfect form!).
  • Jump your feet toward your hands and explode straight upward into the air. Land softly, place your hands on the ground, jump your feet back into a plank and repeat.

Circuit #3:

Spiderman Planks x 8/leg
  • Get into plank position with straight arms.
  • Lift your right leg off the ground and bring it to the outside of your body, with your knee reaching toward your right elbow.
  • Hold here for three seconds before lowering your leg and repeating with the left leg to the left elbow. This is one rep.
In and Outs x 12
  • Get into a V-sit with your core engaged in a straight line, and your legs out in front of you with your feet off the ground.
  • Bring in your knees toward your chest and touch your toes.
  • Extend back out, straightening your legs all the way out in front of you.
Mountain Climbers x 1 minute
  • Get into a straight-arm plank with your body in line and your wrists stacked directly under your shoulders.
  • Drive one knee up toward your chest, keeping your hips square and body in plank position.
  • Continue to repeat this, alternating legs.
  • As soon as one foot touches the ground, the other one should immediately leave it.

How to Plan a Bachelorette Party

Brides and wedding planners aren’t the only ones that have planning to do leading up to the wedding – so do the bridesmaids!  They have the responsibility to plan a fabulous bachelorette party for their bff.

Listen up bridesmaids, get together over a bottle of bubbly and follow these four steps to plan the perfect bachelorette party.

1. Choose the Venue(s)

No one knows the bride better than you, her best friends!  When deciding on a venue keep in mind her personality and taste.  The craziest bar in town may be for some brides while others prefer a more low key night with her girls at Ten Spa or on a scavenger hunt at Enigma Escapes.  These are two fab ideas if you live in Winnipeg.  Consider the comfort level of other guests such as the bride’s mom or aunt.  In this case more risqué locations may not be appropriate.
Once you make a reservation don’t forget to call and confirm with the venue one week before the party.
Don’t forget to consider transportation, especially if you have more than one location to go to.   Book a limo, party bus, or vintage vehicle.

Note: Tell your Winnipeg venue that you are there for a bachelorette party.  Often they will give preferential treatment to you dolled up ladies!

2. Create a Schedule

A detailed timeline ensures that all guests and vendors involved are on the same page.  Create two separate timelines: one for the bridal party and vendors and another one for other guests.

The timeline for the bridal party and vendors will have all the details, this will ensure the party runs smoothly.  Keep the guest timeline to the raw details such as where they should be and at what time.


3. Make the Guest List

Now that the party is planned, it’s time to create the guest list!  Ask the bride who they would like to see at the party to make sure that no one is left out and that no frenemies are invited!  Invite guests at least one month in advance so they can clear their schedule and come to the party.

Email or Facebook are easy ways to invite guests to the party.  Excel and Google Sheets are excellent ways to keep track of guests that have RSVP’d.  To be more formal, a printed invitation can be sent out.  If you are on a crunch for time, VistaPrint is an affordable printing company for invitations.

               NOTE: Do NOT invite your own friends unless the bride has agreed to an open ended guest list.  This is her day, so make sure the attention is solely on her.

4. Party!

Now that all the heavy leg work is done, it’s time to plan the finishing touches.  Time to purchase a party dress, jewellery, and bubbly for the big night out.  Celebrate with your best friends and create memories that will last a life time – your bestie is getting married!!!

Top 3 Ways to Reuse Wedding Flowers

You have spent countless hours deciding on the style of bouquet and centerpieces for your wedding.  After the day you marry the love of your life, what are you going to do with your flowers?  As a Winnipeg Wedding Planner, several brides have asked me for some options of what to do with their old flowers.

1 Gifts:

This is my favorite way to reuse wedding flowers.  At weddings I attend for friends or family, taking home flowers is always a kind gesture from the bride and groom.  It allows their wedding flowers to find a new home and brighten someone else’s week.  Who doesn’t love waking up to the smell of fresh flowers?

Wedding guests don’t usually take the wedding flowers home unless they are told.  Encourage the MC of the wedding to let guests know at the end of the night they are welcome to take the flowers and centerpieces home.  Make sure to emphasize that they are only allowed to take the flowers — not the vases! Your florist will not be too happy with you the next morning if any of the vases are missing!
