Often Forgotten Winter Wedding Details

The Canadian Winter can be cold, but boy oh boy does it make a beautiful backdrop for a wedding.
As a wedding planner, when I first sit down with a couple I ask them about their vision for the wedding. Consistently every couple planning a winter wedding says they want it to feel cozy and intimate.
Unlike summer weddings, the ceremony and reception for winter weddings take place inside. However, at some point throughout the day the couple ends up going outside!
Here’s my top four often forgotten winter wedding details;
- Fresh flowers don’t like the cold.
Even if it’s -40 outside, I’m still a fresh flower advocate. One way to keep your flowers looking fresh throughout the day is by wrapping you bouquet before going outside. The bag used doesn’t have to be anything special, even a simple grocery bag will do. - Dress appropriately.
Stilettos look amazing, however they aren’t practical when walking through ankle deep snow! Remind members of your wedding party to wear comfortable winter boots. I suggest Ugg style boots that are easy to slip on and off. - Have an indoor photo location.
No matter what time of year you get married I always suggest to have a back-up indoor location for photos. In the winter a nice heated space is a great reprieve from the cold. Plus it also helps your photographer! When the temperature drops, when outside your more likely to see your breath. Normally this isn’t an issue, however the puff of moisture will cover your face in pictures! - Winter roads.
Weather in the winter is unpredictable…. Unless your hosting the ceremony at a church, try and have both the ceremony and reception at the same location. Your guests will be able to stay in one place and not have to battle winter roads. However keep in mind that depending on your venue, the room will have to be flipped in between for the reception.
I hope these four simple reminders help when planning your winter wedding! Send me an email at alex@alweddingswinnipeg.com with any other tips you have!
Happy planning!
